One of the main objectives of the Red Cross is to protect life and provide immediate relief to the victims of natural calamities such as floods, cyclones, epidemics, famine, drought, earthquakes, fire accidents etc. The Red Cross Society, Kerala state Kottayam branch, is committed to fulfilling its mission. We have launched massive capacity-building initiatives to train the local community people to be better prepared to face disasters and manage their consequences. Our Humanitarian Services encompass: Reaching out beyond the reach of our regular teams to care for the sick and injured; Providing initial relief in the form of emergency food and shelter; Providing access to clean water; Providing medical attention; Providing emergency transportation. I.R.C.S. Emergency and Disaster Response (EDR) is a program of the Indian Red Cross Society that aims at providing humanitarian assistance including transportation, shelter, food, medicine and health care in case of disasters, accidents or any other emergencies/disasters. The Indian Red Cross Society has set up regional offices and services for handling a wide spectrum of disaster responses. The Indian Red Cross Society has been equipping itself with its manpower and physical infrastructures for a nationwide Disaster Preparedness/Disaster Response (DP/DR) programme. These activities are carried out in disaster-prone areas with the help and assistance of I.R.C.S. National Headquarters in New Delhi.
