Nursing and Employment Scheme (RCNES)
This is a project aimed at catering to the needs of the nuclear
family in modern times. The RCNES is the most widely appreciated
service project of the Kottayam Red Cross. Under the scheme specially
trained nurses are available for providing selfless and dedicated
nursing care to the bed ridden and ailing elderly people.
This unique scheme was started on 31st July 1987 by Sri K T Ouseph,
Hony. Secretary. The project serves a twofold purpose. It opens
up job avenues for thousands of young women and at the same time
thousands of patients and aged persons find very satisfying and
Red Cross Nursing Training Course is given every month for the
selected men and women. The training course includes first aid, nursing
care, family and child welfare, health care, beautician and psychology
courses. On successful completion they are provided employment
as home nurses. Besides food and safe accommodation, these nurses
are paid attractive salaries.
interested in serving as nurses under Kottayam Red Cross may apply
to the Secretary at any time. Ladies who have studied up to S.
S. L. C. and are between the age group 17 and 40 (married or unmarried),
may submit their application on plain paper stating name, address,
age, educational qualifications etc along with a self-addressed
envelope with postage stamp worth Rs. 5/- to " The Secretary,
Red Cross, P B No. 724, Kottayam-686001. Kerala".
We supply free medicines to poor patients as per the prescription
of doctors from all over the district. Patients who are financially
backward can avail themselves of the required medicines.
Counter at Medical College
A well furnished service counter is functional at the Medical
College, Kottayam. It provides free medicines to poor patients. Doctors, Red Cross nurses, public voluntary agencies clubs etc
donate medicines including costly and life saving drugs.
The Kottayam Red Cross Branch maintains a directory of willing
blood donors. On the basis of the prescription of doctors, we
make arrangements to provide blood. To meet the emergency requirements
for rare blood groups we are planning to open blood banks.
We have conducted numerous eye donation awareness camps all over
the district. Thousands of eye donation consent forms have been
printed and distributed by the Red Cross.
